Spring time pre wedding photo shoots in sunny Southsea

It makes such a difference when the daffodils come out and the sun is shining. I had a lovely week catching up with some lovely couples who are both getting in married in May. This seemed a good time to meet for their pre-wedding shoots and to put together some plans for their special day.
First of all I met with Hannah and Shaun which was like meeting old friends, particularly as Shaun is a fellow northerner (we both slipped back into stronger accents once we got talking to each other).
This lovely couple are getting married at The Marwell Hotel, which is nestled in beautiful woodlands next to Marwell Zoo and Julian and I really looking forward to being their wedding photographers.
I then met the fun loving Stacey and Martin who are getting married at the stunning beach hideaway which is Hayling Island Sailing Club. When the sun is shining there you could imagine yourself in a tropical part of the world and we are looking forward to lots of sunset beach shots of their day together.

Gorgeous Clock Barn Wedding In lovely March sunshine

Rebecca and David organised one of those weddings where as a photographer you think “I wish i was a guest at this one!”

From the moment we turned up at the Hotel du Vin in Winchester to capture the bridal preparation and were greeted with warm hugs and offers of champagne(which of course we politely declined) we knew this was going to be a wonderful day. The hotel provided a perfect setting for bridal photographs with Rebecca stood in front of a full length mirror and the light streaming through the large Victorian windows.

Julian met David at a wonderfully quaint pub by the historic church and the fun continued.

We were not allowed to stand at the front to photograph the ceremony in this church but we took all the opportunities we could where we were allowed.

The drive up to the beautiful Clock Barn wedding venue is one of my favourite and so Julian followed the happy couple in their open top beetle to capture them with the views of the blue skies and rolling hills behind them, veil flying in the wind and smiles all around.

I was lucky to travel with the guests on their vintage bus which was a real treat and of course was the perfect backdrop for some fun group shots at Clock Barn when we arrived.

A wedding you leave smiling from!

Wide eyed and alert newborn baby photography

Capturing the beautiful Annabel Rose at just one week old was such a treat and one I was really looking forward to. Julian and I photographed Annabel’s lovely parents, Sarah-Jane and Shane at their romantic winter wedding at The Langstone Hotel in Hayling Island two years ago.
We have kept in touch and I was given the honour of capturing Sarah-Jane’s pregnancy. When Annabel arrived we booked the newborn shoot in straight away and here are the results. I was expecting Annabel to be sleepy at only one week old but she was wide awake and very alert and wanted to play. This can make for more challenging posing of newborns but can also create some unexpected gems.
Thank you Sarah-Jane and Shane for letting me into this special time of their life.

I offer bespoke maternity and newborn packages and a “Watch Me Grow Package”. Please see my website page for more lovely pregnancy and newborn photographs:

I knew Rebecca and David would be a dream to photograph when i first met them last year. I have never known a couple laugh so much together and it shows in their photographs together. Really looking forward to photographing this Winchester wedding with vintage buses taking all the guests to the beautiful Clock Barn in Whitchurch.

Bonny Blue eyes- a six month old baby portrait shoot in Hampshire

I was so keen to take photos of this lovely little chappy at 6 months old. I have never seen such huge eyes on a baby before and he is possibly on of the most laid back babies I have ever come across.
It also gave me a chance to experiment with some new props and to try a bit of reflection photography which so inspired me after hearing Wendy Newman (excellent American Photographer) talk about it at the SWPP convention this year(Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers).
Teddy loved all the different props and getting in and out of baskets and tubs and marvelling at his reflection – his expression is priceless, “who is this guy?”.

Beautiful Newborn Photography in Hampshire

I had the honour of photographing this beautiful baby girl on her one week birthday in her home with her mummy and toddler sister in Portsmouth this week.I love using natural light for newborn photography and using props where needed to show the tiny frame of the baby. It is wonderful to be part of capturing and telling a baby’s story right from the beginning and the earlier the better when they are still so sleepy and unperturbed by their surroundings. The “Watch Me Grow Package” which we do is a perfect way to do this . See : http://www.naomilloyd.co.uk/maternity_and_newborns.html

The magic of children at a wedding

I have to admit Julian and I did not invite all children to our wedding eight years ago.( can’t believe it is that long ago- Julian says he still like me too!).

I completely understand why people choose to do or not to do. Our little nieces who did attend ours managed to make as much noise as possible during the vows-which we of course can laugh about now.

However, I have just been looking through some new marketing materials and reflecting on recent weddings and have rediscovered some little gems that only children can create.
What must the fun and festivities of a wedding mean to young children and the concept of a bride and groom? Our own little boy who is now six has recently declared his thoughts on marriage….apparently you need to find someone when you are older who looks like you and then you can marry her! Magic!

Here are some gems from 2011:
